Hear O Israel is the name for a passage from the book of Deuteronomy: “Hear O Israel; the Lord is our God, the Lord is One”, which is perceived in Judaism as the most basic declaration of faith, thus it is said at various occasions throughout the day- every morning and evening during the “Shema” reading, as well as before sleep.
